Kathmandu: Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) which has been enjoying the monopoly of ground handling services at Tribhuvan International Airport in the past is likely to be over.
The NAC authorities are flabbergasted at the decision of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) which has made it mandatory that all ground management services at the TIA should go through a competitive process for an eligible organization.
It may be recalled that all the ground management services were the backbone of the lifeline of NAC which may likely be lost if the NAC does not win the selection process through competitive bidding with other eligible organizations.
The CAAN option for a competitive process comes at a time when the TIA is considered for contributing to Nepal’s recurrent inclusion in the European Union’s blacklist due to insufficient management.
