Kathmandu: The Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) has addressed ongoing concerns about inconsistent enforcement of the Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) card in Syabrubesi, a gateway to the Langtang region. Several member agencies have reported that the Tourist Police Unit in Syabrubesi is selectively checking TIMS cards for trekkers accompanied by registered guides or assistant guides, while Free Individual Trekkers (FITs) are allowed to trek without the mandatory TIMS card.
In response, TAAN engaged in discussions with the Head of the Tourist Police Office in Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu. Both parties have agreed that trekking guides will not be penalized for lacking TIMS cards until further notice. TAAN has assured that no action will be taken against trekking agencies or guides, and any future updates regarding TIMS enforcement will be communicated through official channels.
TAAN is actively working with the Nepal Tourism Board to devise a comprehensive plan for the proper and effective implementation of the TIMS card, ensuring all trekkers comply with regulations.
The Secretariat has emphasized that further updates will be made available through TAAN’s official platforms.
For now, trekking agencies and guides are advised to continue operations without fear of harassment regarding TIMS card compliance.
