A gushing waterfall, water cascading down from the mountains, accompanied by lush greenery and a beautiful pond at the base. The waterfall that descends from a height of over 80 meters attracts a crowd of tourists. No one can resist the temptation to see this waterfall. The area around the waterfall is always crowded. People are eager to take selfies with the waterfall as the backdrop. Playing in the pond along with the waterfall’s water is also a popular activity.
Tourists from various districts come to enjoy this waterfall. Located near the Marsyangdi River, the Gaikhure Waterfall is situated in Ward No. 1 of Besisahar Municipality, along the Dumre-Besisahar road. Even if a vehicle stops, travelers can reach the waterfall easily. Around three hundred tourists visit this waterfall daily. On Fridays, Saturdays, and public holidays, the number of visitors doubles.
According to locals from Lamjung and neighboring districts like Gorkha, Tanahun, Kaski, and Manang, this place attracts tourists. Aadesh Shrestha, an internal tourist who visited the waterfall, said, “When the sunlight reflects on the water of the cascading waterfall, creating a beautiful spectacle, it mesmerizes the mind. The flowing water of the waterfall is so enchanting that it easily entices anyone.”
Sirjana Shrestha, an internal tourist from Ward No. 8 of Besisahar Municipality, Sheraphant, enjoys taking selfies with the coolness of the waterfall. She says that she comes here not only to enjoy the waterfall but also to spend quality time with friends.
Another tourist, Yogesh Ghimire, who came from Tanahun, said that he was attracted to this place because he wanted to play in the pond, unlike other places. The crowd at the waterfall includes people of all ages, from children to young adults.
Currently, various small businesses operate near the waterfall to cater to the increasing number of tourists, even during the off-season.
According to locals, in the past, both domestic and foreign tourists used to visit this place. So, there is a good possibility of engaging in adventurous activities like canoeing along with sightseeing the waterfall and the pond.
To organize the Ghai Khure Waterfall for tourists and make it a center of attraction, the municipality, in collaboration with other organizations, is making preparations. Mayor Guman Singh Aryal stated, “We are preparing to make this waterfall a center of attraction for tourists throughout the year.” He further added that they are working with private sectors to manage and develop the waterfall and its surrounding area to cater to tourists’ needs. The plan includes redirecting water from the Marshyangdi River to ensure a continuous flow of water in the waterfall, constructing a pond below the waterfall, and creating parking spaces. They are also planning to organize activities like canyoning and rafting at the waterfall.
Due to the proximity of the Chakri Annapurna Highway and the presence of Lamjung, foreign tourists are expected to be attracted to this route. The Ghai Khure Waterfall flows from July to October.
Apart from this Gaikhure Waterfall, the nearby Hama Falls (Bhulbhule Falls) located in the Syaure of Marshyangdi Rural Municipality is also an attraction for both domestic and international tourists. Local residents state that this waterfall offers a magnificent view not only for residents of Besisahar, Khudi, and Chanaute but also for visitors from various districts.
A few years ago, the rural municipality spent nearly one million rupees to construct steps and bridges, making it easier for tourists to reach the Ghai Khure Waterfall. Recently, the number of internal tourists visiting the waterfall has increased. The municipality aims to further develop the waterfall and create appropriate facilities for tourists in the near future, as stated by the chairperson, Arjun Gurung.
So, if you are in the area during the appropriate season, visiting the Gaikhure Waterfall and enjoying the surrounding attractions would be an excellent choice.
