Kathmandu, July 19:
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has been selected to receive the prestigious Swiss Tourism Award-2023. The award ceremony will take place in Lugano City, Switzerland, from November 3 to 5 later this year. The Swiss Tourism Award is given to recognize excellence in various segments of the tourism industry.
A committee of scientists working in the tourism sector evaluated and chose KMC for this esteemed award, according to Nabin Manandhar, the Spokesperson at KMC.
The organizers of the award ceremony sent a letter to KMC Mayor Balendra Shah, inviting him to attend the event. The letter highlighted that the region’s unique aspects would be showcased to the public during the ceremony, promoting the specialty of Kathmandu’s tourism destinations. The city’s cultural, religious, archaeological, and historical heritage, along with its vibrant urban atmosphere, are expected to attract visitors.
The Swiss Tourism Award has been distributed for 15 years and is open to applications from various local levels. A selection process narrows down the applicants, and only a few are nominated for the final award.
The primary objectives of the award are to promote cultural and natural heritages as tourist destinations, improve the competitiveness of tourism services standards, and boost prospects for tourism development. Additionally, the award aims to market and communicate the tourism destinations among potential tourists. Winning the award will also enhance the visibility of the awarded places in international markets, including Switzerland and Italy. (RSS)
