Kathmandu – In a landmark event today, the NGO Federation of Nepal spearheaded a vital discussion on the prevention of violence against women and girls, marking the commencement of the global initiative, 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. Chaired by Mr. Ram Prasad Subedi, the President of the NGO Federation of Nepal, the event attracted esteemed dignitaries, including Chief Guest Hon. Kiran Kumar Sah, Chairperson of the Women, Children, and Senior Citizens Committee.
Themed “UNITE: Invest to Prevent Violence against Women & Girls,” the gathering aimed to address and strategize against the pervasive issue of gender-based violence. Noteworthy attendees included Hon. Bishnu Ojha, Member of the Inclusion Commission, and Hon. Mina Devi Sob, Member of the National Dalit Commission, highlighting the diverse perspectives brought to the forefront.
Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and federations played a pivotal role in the discussion, emphasizing the collective responsibility of society in combating gender-based violence. The panelists included a representative from the Ministry of Women Children and Senior Citizens, Ms. Shanta Laxmi Shrestha – a CSO representative, and Mr. Sandesh Silpakar, GESI Focal Person from the Association of International NGOs in Nepal.
The panel discussion, expertly moderated by the NGO Federation of Nepal, featured insightful remarks from each panelist, delving into the roles of policies, investments, and the active engagement of Civil Society Organizations in preventing violence against women and girls. The representative from the Ministry of Women Children and Senior Citizens provided valuable insights, complemented by the perspectives of Ms. Shanta Laxmi Shrestha and Mr. Sandesh Silpakar.
